Terms of Use — AI Safeguarding Training Platform (Scope)
Effective date: 13 April 2026 Last updated: 2026-04-12
1. About the platform
Scope is an AI-powered training platform for school safeguarding leads. It provides simulated practice conversations with artificial child personas so that Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), deputy DSLs, and other staff can develop and refine their approach to handling disclosures.
Scope is a training tool. It is not a safeguarding decision-making system and must not be used as one.
2. Who these terms apply to
These terms apply to all users of the platform, including staff members, DSLs, deputy DSLs, and administrators at subscribing schools. By using the platform, you agree to these terms.
Your school has entered into a separate service agreement with AI Safeguarding. These terms supplement that agreement.
3. Permitted use
You may use the platform to:
- Practise responding to simulated safeguarding disclosures
- Review your training session performance and feedback
- Complete post-conversation safeguarding action exercises
- Review sessions as a supervisor (if your role permits)
4. Prohibited use
You must not enter real safeguarding case data into the platform. This includes:
- Real names of children or young people
- Real details of actual disclosures or safeguarding concerns
- Real case reference numbers or identifying information
- Any information that could identify a real child, family, or ongoing safeguarding case
All scenarios and personas in the platform are fictional. Your responses during training sessions should also be fictional or generalised.
If you accidentally enter real safeguarding data, notify your school's Designated Safeguarding Lead and Data Protection Officer immediately. The platform administrator will erase the affected session data.
You must not:
- Share your login credentials with anyone
- Attempt to access another user's session data
- Use the platform for any purpose other than safeguarding training
- Record, screenshot, or share platform content outside your school's training context without authorisation
- Attempt to circumvent platform security controls
5. Training simulation disclaimer
All conversations on this platform are simulated training exercises. The child personas are artificial — they are not real children and do not represent real individuals.
The platform's assessments and feedback are for training purposes only. They do not constitute safeguarding advice, legal guidance, or professional assessment of your competence.
If you encounter a real safeguarding concern during or outside of training, follow your school's established safeguarding procedures — not the platform's training workflow.
6. Your data
Your school is the data controller for your personal data processed through the platform. AI Safeguarding processes your data on behalf of your school under a Data Processing Agreement.
What we collect:
- Your account details (name, email, role)
- Voice recordings during practice sessions (deleted after 14 days)
- Transcripts and session traces (retained for up to 12 months)
- Written feedback you submit (retained for up to 12 months)
- A minimal record that you completed training and your competency level (kept up to 6 years, so your school has evidence of your training)
- Login and security events
Your rights:
- You can request access to your data through your school
- You can request deletion of your data through your school's administrator
- For questions about how your data is handled, contact your school's Data Protection Officer
For full details, see our Privacy Position Paper and Data Protection Impact Assessment.
7. Account security
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
- Admin users are required to use multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- If you suspect your account has been compromised, notify your school administrator immediately
- The platform may lock your account after repeated failed login attempts
8. Availability and changes
The platform is provided as-is for training purposes. We may update, modify, or temporarily suspend the platform for maintenance or improvement. We will aim to provide reasonable notice of significant changes.
These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
9. Liability
The platform is a training aid. AI Safeguarding accepts no liability for safeguarding decisions made by users, whether or not those decisions were informed by platform training. Safeguarding responsibility remains with the school and its designated staff at all times.
